     This article is about students fighting to be able to wear leggings to school. They understand that leggings are not pants, however, they are comfortable and convenient. This article also talks about how students are allowed to wear skirts and dresses which shows way more skin then leggings could ever.
     This article relates to my school because we have dress code, even though it isn't as strict as most school. We are allowed to wear leggings however, when we have important event we are not. Some schools banned leggings and allow dresses and skirts, which I feel is bizarre. Leggings do not show much skin. But if your pantie line is that big of a distraction you personally should do something about it.


What is the central idea of the passage and how is it developed and refined throughout the selection?
       The idea of this central passage is that leggings should be allowed as long as there isn’t that big of a distraction. For example, the author claims “if you're going to restrict anything, it should be the extremely distracting bulge that occurs when an individual has on a pair of too tight, too low-rise jeans” (Zhang) because this shows a lot of skin which people overlook everyday. Also, the author feels like “the personal choice of girls to wear leggings has come under attack” (Zhang),she feels as if it should be the females personal choice to wear leggings while she’s at school. I believe her main argument is if you're comfortable in it, without showing too much skin it should be allowed.

Current Event 8

     This article is about a high school in Georgia not having proms, this leaves the children and their parents to have segregated proms. Mareshia Rucker was interviewed and was talking about how she went to see her friends prom, however, she did not leave her car because she wasn’t invited to the prom since it was reserved for whites. Mareshia and her friends decided to organize an integrated prom, so all races could enjoy their special moment together.

     This article connect to my everyday life because where we are from race isn't still segregated as it is in Georgia. Also, we are having a prom soon and it would be weird to think whites and blacks could have a prom together. I feel like some people nowadays take race too serious. For example, Mareshia said “I didn't understand what was so different about me and them.” (Gumbrecht) I agree with her. Just because someones skin is darker than another’s should mean they can not be around each other. I believe that its a great idea that Mareshia decided to host an integrated prom with her friends. Maybe the other kids could realize having an prom all together could be fun. It is also stated in the article,“They say people "self-segregate” (Gumbrecht) this is also true but it may not be with races though. For instance, music preferences. In my opinion that was dealing with it comes in and also being fair.

What is the author’s point of view, and how does it impact the overall effect of the text? Use evidence from the selection to support your answer
     The overall effect of this passage is that besides your race you can have fun with other races as well. As stated in the article, “Organizers, both black and white, said they lost friends in the process” (Gumbrecht) some of the students lost friends because they wanted to support the right thing to do. The fact that they took that risk to make things right, is pretty amazing.The author is making it clear that race shouldn't be a big issue.

Current Event #7

     This article is about a teenage boy, Alex Hirbal going on a stabbing spree at his high school in Pennsylvania. He stabbed twenty students and one security officer. Hirbal faced four account of attempted homicide and twenty-one counts of aggravated assault. The assistant principal Mr. King stopped Hirbal from stabbing anymore students. The whole district will be available to counseling. as stated in the article “mass stabbings, such as the one at the high school, are rare” (Carter), therefore, the district was let in shock when this incident took place.
     The article relates to what we’re doing in school because recently we've made suicide awareness posters, and possibly Hirbal could have been on the verge of killing himself along with other people. For example, most of the time when I hear about school tragedies the person who starts it usually kills himself after the fact. I feel like it’s great the district is open to counseling because most of them were shocked that the event even happened. It affects me because I feel as if some people tend to hold in their sadness or anger and could outbreak anytime. Even though I feel safe at my school, some other schools should have more programs to help the kids that could possibly be a treat to the society.

How does the author support his claim? Use evidence from the selection to support your answer.
     The author supports his claim by interviewing some of the victims at the scene of the incident. For example, when they interviewed Mexier she said “He just was kind of shy and didn't talk to many people" (Carter) no one expected this kid to act out like this, not even his parents, therefore, when this happened it makes you wonder what could be the issue. Also, Hibral’s attorney Patrick Thomassey said, “It's important that he be examined by a psychiatrist and determined where he is mentally” (Carter) Hirbal could possibly have mental problems which made him out rage in this act. The author doesn't really have a claim, except for there was no visible reason for Hirbal to act out this way further investigation may be relevant.

This article is talking about how the school district in Los Angeles are starting to track their high school and middle school student’s social media post. The reason one may ask why they are tracking them is that they want to look for bullying, drug use, and other things that could be harmful to the students. Also, this article is about how the teacher are engaging in social media to teach students lessons.
In my opinion this could be beneficial to the student because when they get older and get a usually jobs do background checks and look at your social media posts. My position on this article goes both ways because I like my privacy but I’d also like that extra safety feeling . Also, this article relates to my school because I do believe they track our social media post, however, for our safety.

     The central idea of this article is that watching students social media post are used for the children's safety. For example,” [they] were able to save a life” (Martinez) by monitoring students social media, they were aware of a child who could possibly be on the edge of committing suicide. They also say that they don’t read the private post, "I find it interesting that people keep asking if we're doing something illegal or snooping or eavesdropping, but what we're actually doing is looking at public posts,” (Martinez) This meaning if your page is private they cannot see your stuff. The main central idea of this passage is to enforce the Student Code of Conduct to the fullest. In conclusion, if you don’t want them to read your stuff simply put it on private.

Current Event #5

This article Dr. Raison is discussing anxiety and depression. He answers FAQ about anxiety and depression and how to deal with them. He gives a couple of different studies on them and explains how some are effective and some aren't. For example, using alcohol and marijuana to help reduce anxiety. However, only few test have shown this actually works. Raison exclaims, “They should watch out for the possibility that they become more anxious or depressed after drinking or using marijuana” (Raison). I feel as if this is not a good idea to deal with anxiety or depression. One may feel as if this could possibly make the symptoms worse. Also another example, “studies are being done all the time, and other forms of therapy are also emerging as highly effective” (Raison) I feel as if therapy is a great solution to these symptoms. If people learned how to deal and solve these problems they would try and turn to drugs or alcohol for solutions. I choose this article because it connected to some issues you could have as an everyday problem. School for instance, it could cause you to have anxiety say if you have a big presentation or test coming up. If you learned the possible ways to not suffer for these symptoms it could possibly change your lifestyle.

     What is the authors point of view? I feel as if the authors point of view is not to necessarily turn to drugs or alcohol to sabel your moods out. I also feel as if he thinks you should turn to exercise, as stated in the article, “exercise has been repeatedly shown to be of value” (Raison). Raison feels as if exercises has shown an increasing amount of change in people who suffer from anxiety and depression. However, his main solution is psychotherapy.

Current Event #4

     This article is about a group of researcher that have conducted research on the holocaust. They've found a broader number of the concentration camps. However, as stated in the article “Poland, remains the city that had the most ghettos” (USHMM). Jews where the main target of the Germans. However, other minor groups were also killed.

     This article relates to the lesson we are now learning in English 10. Since we are reading the book Night about the holocaust and also during some online activities on the holocaust i felt as if this article could relate well. My position on this article is that we should have more research done on the holocaust so these tragic events do not occur again.

How does the author use language to advance her point of view?
     One may feel as if the authors language helps describe the tragic events more in depth. For example, he uses the words “segregation”, “exploitation” giving detail on how the camps were organized. It also advances the authors point of view by telling what the Germans did. For example,they “exploited” woman into sexually activities with them .

USHM Article Blog Post

This article was about the children of the Holocaust. Usually children got killed because they weren't    the ideal image, also if they were too young to be deployed to labor. As stated in the article,  "Because children were generally too young to be deployed at forced labor, German authorities  generally selected them, along with the elderly, ill, and disabled, for the first deportations to killing  centers, or as the first victims led to mass graves to be shot" (USHMM) children weren't the only  ones being killed. Even though mostly Jews were being killed they also targeted, non-Jewish children  this included Romani children. Some of the Jews were sent to concentrations camps. However, they  died of the poor conditions and diseases being spread throughout the camp. Also stated in the  article, "In spite of their acute vulnerability, many children discovered ways to survive" (USHMM)  some of the children stole food just to survive also, they also escaped to go to Jewish family camps.  When the Nazi's surrender many of the Jewish children fled the country to Europe.
